Abstract

1,271,351. D to A converter. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 9 Jan., 1970 [15 Jan., 1969], No. 1068/70. Heading G4H. In a machine tool positioning system digital information representing the desired movement is fed from registers 21-25 via gates 26-30, only one of which is open at a given time, to parallel adder 20. The count in counter 19, fed by oscillator 18, is also fed to adder 20. Gates 26-30, 36-40 and 41-45 act as a multiplexing unit, so that digital information relating to different processes is processed by a single adder and then distributed to different terminals. Delay units 52-56, fed from oscillator 18 via divider 51 ensure that gates 26-30, 36-40 and 41-45 operate in groups of three. The phase analogue is generated by triggers 31-35 in respect of a reference signal 62. The time within the cycle at which the triggers are set and a pulse produced is determined by the content of adder 20, which has a 3-bjt capacity, prior to the start of counting by counter 19. The pulse is started when the high order trigger of counter 19 becomes 1 and stopped when it becomes 0. The higher the digital count in 20 the earlier does the adder become filled by counts from counter 19.
