A foundry machine comprises a stationary frame 12, a support 14 on the frame, a swinging door 17 carried on the support 14 on a swinging axis, motive means 33 connected to the support 14 and linkage means connecting the motive means to the swinging door. The motive means comprises a fluid-operated piston and cylinder 33. The ram of the cylinder is hinged at 38 to a lever 35 pivoted at 37. At the end of the lever 35 is journalled a roller 43 which runs between guide rails 42 fixed on the back of the door 17. At each extreme position of the door as shown in Fig. 3 the roller locks the door while during movement of the door the roller travels along the guide rails and the weight of the door is not borne by the piston and cylinder 33 but by the pivots 37 and 18. As shown the invention is applied to a core moulding machine 11 which has one core-box half 29 slidable along four spanning struts 25 of a frame 13 rotatable within a stationary frame 12. A blower head 30 is attached to the struts 25. The other core box half 27 is mounted on the door 17 (not shown in Fig. 1). To make a core 28 the rotary frame 13 is inverted and moulding mixture is blown into the heated core-box. The frame 13 is returned to its original position. The core-box 29 is retracted and the core-box 27 containing the cores swung away from the rotary frame. The door 17 (Fig. 3) is then pivoted at 18 from a vertical position (dotted lines) to a horizontal position (full lines) and the cores 28 are ejected on to a conveyer below (not shown).
