Abstract
1,270,142. Electric couplings. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 3 April, 1969 [4 April, 1968], No. 17494/69. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] An electrophotographic member comprises a transparent substrate, a transparent conductive layer thereon, a photoconductive layer on the conductive layer, an area of one surface of the conductive layer being accessible, a sheet of compliant "semi-conductive" material in faceto-face contact with the accessible area and a clamp urging the sheet and the conductive layer together. The "semi-conductive" sheet has a surface resistivity of 10<SP>-3</SP> to 10<SP>9</SP> ohms per square and is preferably a tape of copoly ethyleneethylacrylate containing a carbon filler, stearic and palmitic acids, an aliphatic hydrocarbon and a phthalic ester. In an embodiment a transparent polyester substrate 1 is coated with a layer 3 of cuprous iodide in a binder and a photoconductive layer 2 applied. Two opposing strips of layer 2 are removed and a strip 6 of "semi-conductive" material placed on each exposed strip of layer 3. A pair of metal clamps, 4 having jaws 4, 5 are used to make electrical contact to the member. In use an insulating surface 8 e.g. TiO 2 or polyethylene, on a paper support 7 is placed near to the photoconductive layer and a conductive plate 9 used to complete the electrical connections. The accessible portion of layer 3 may also be provided by initially making the photoconductive layer 2 narrower than the layer 3. Specification 1,225,681 is referred to.
