Abstract
1,269,946. Calibrating gas gauge nozzles. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Aug. 19, 1969 [Aug. 22, 1968], No.40307/68. Heading G1M. A gas gauge nozzle 11 is calibrated for high temperature environment by mounting it in a test apparatus comprising a heater tube 12, passing gas through its bore 31 and outlet 32, and moving an anvil 39 fixed to a biasing weight 41 from a datum position shown to a position where it closes off the outlet 32, the gas flow rate which is a measure of the gap in measuring operation being monitored upstream by a meter (not shown) and plotted against the gap distance between the outlet 32 and the anvil. The anvil is accurately moved to vary the gap by operating a micrometer 20 to slide a push rod 18, 44 in sleeves 17, 45. At upper and lower limit positions of the anvil relative to the gas gauge face the anvil operates electric switches (not shown) so that the movement of the anvil and the gap between it and the face can be corrected for variations in the gas flow and change in heater and other conditions.
