1,269,449. Treating of textiles with optical brighteners. HENKEL & CIE G.m.b.H. 25 Sept., 1970 [29 Sept., 1969; 11 Dec., 1969 (2)], No. 45685/70. Heading DIP. A textile treatment composition having a content, as optical brightener of (a) an alkali metal or ammonium salt of 4, 4'-bis (2 anilino- 4-methylamino-1, 3, 5-triazinyl-6-amino)-stilbene 2, 2'-disulphonic acid and (b) an alkali metal or ammonium salt of 4, 4'-bis-(2-anilino-4-morpholino-1, 3, 5- triazinyl-6-amino)-stilbene-2, 2'-disulphonic acid the molar ratio of the compound (a) to the compound (b) being from 3:1 to 1:4, preferably from 2:1 to 1:2. Preferably the salt of components (a) and (b) is the sodium salt. The composition suitably contains 0.01 to 1 % by weight based on the solids of the optical brightener and 99 to 99.99% by weight of further substances suitable for the treatment namely. (a) from 1 to 40% by weight of at least one compound from the class of anionic, non-ionic and amphoteric surface-active detergent substances, (b) from 10 to 80% of at least one non-surface-active builder salt with a cleaning intensifying or complexing action, (c) 10 to 50% of a per-compound, especially sodium perborate, either anhydrous or containing water of crystallisation and also its mixtures with stabilisers and activators and (d) 0.1 to 20% of other auxiliary and added substances. The detergent substances may consist of. up to 100%, preferably 5 to 70% of compounds of the sulphonate and/or sulphate type, up to 100%, preferably 5 to 40%, of non-ionic compounds of the poly glycol ether type and up to 100%, preferably 10 to 50% of soap. The builder salts may be composed of up to 100%, preferably 25 to 95%, of alkali metal triphosphates and their mixtures with alkali metal pyrophosphates, up to 100%, preferably 5 to 50%, of an alkali metal salt of a complex-forming compound from the class of poly phosphoric acids, nitrilotriacetic acid and ethylenediamino tetraacetic acid and up to 100%, preferably 5 to 75% of at least one compound from the class of alkali metal silicates, carbonates and borates. Among the other auxiliary and added substances are especially the foam inhibitors, enzymes and greying inhibitors, all of which can be present in quantity up to 5% and preferably from 0.2 to 3%. The composition may also contain in the form of an aqueous dispersion 3 to 15%, preferably 5 to 10% of surfaceactive ammonium compound, from 0.1 to 1% of a dispersion stabiliser from the class of fatty acid alkylolamides, polyethylene glycols and polyethylene glycol derivatives of alcohols amine fatty acid and alkyl phenol, from 0 to 2% of a neutral salt and from 0 to 10%, preferably 0.5 to 5% of an organic solvent, such as low molecular weight alcohols, especially ethanol and isopropanol, etheralcohols, glycols, ketones, urea and alkylolureas may be used. The composition may also contain a water insoluble or water dispersible polymer having a stiffening or dressing action.
