Abstract

1,269,178. Photographic contact printer. WESTERN LITHO PLATE & SUPPLY CO.: Oct. 16, 1970 [Oct. 31, 1969], No.49376/70. Heading G2A. Photographic printing apparatus comprises an endless conveyor 1 which is intermittently movable for transporting a photo-sensitive plate (P) thereon from a first station I (at which the film and plate are loaded on to the conveyor) through a second station E (at which the plate is exposed through a film (F) while the conveyor is stopped) to a third station O, and means (3) which press the plate during exposure, but are released when the plate is transported. In a contact printing apparatus shown Fig. 1 the conveyor comprises a pair of endless chains 29 mounted along channels (15) and (17) of an elongate table 11; between the chains are mounted bars (53) which travel over top plates (23), (25) of the table and have pins (55) for holding the plate and film in register. Pressing means (3) consists of a vacuum frame having a resilient backing pad (63) and a window assembly (59) in a counterbalanced hinged frame (69), and connected to a vacuum pump 123. The light source 7 is adjustably mounted on bars 129 and cooled by a blower 135, the exposure time being variable by means of a shutter controlled by a relay (VTR). In use the plate and film are placed on the conveyor at station I and moved to the exposure position, the window assembly (59) lowered, the vacuum pump started, the shutter actuated, the vacuum pump stopped, the window assembly retracted, the film removed by a vacuum cup lifter and the plate fed into a processing apparatus.
