Abstract
1,269,117. Rolling. ROTARY PROFILE ANSTALT. 1 July, 1969 [18 July, 1968], No. 33094/69. Heading B3M. An elongated headed article is produced by rolling a blank 11, Fig. 1, in a throat defined by two or more rolls 12, locating one end of the blank axially by a member 16, and rolling a head on the opposite end by means of a stylus 21 which is forced into line contact with the blank (Fig. 2). The head of the blank may be flattened in a further operation, and may have a recess formed in it by the stylus. The blank may be held within a throat defined by an external C-shaped roll and an internal cylindrical roll. The external roll may be lined by a series of small rolls held in a cage so that a number of blanks may be fed successively through the throat. The blanks may be cold rolled or heated inductively before rolling. The method is suitable for rolling allen screws, car half-shafts, or nails.
