Abstract

1,268,792. Charging blast furnaces. DEMAGA.G. 16 April, 1969, No. 19508/69. Heading F4B. Apparatus for charging a high pressure blast furnace comprises bins 1 and 2 feeding hoppers 5 and 6 closable by flaps 3 and 4 and discharging through flaps 7 and 8 operated by hydraulic motors 9 and 10 into a shoot 12 leading to a hopper 14 closed by a bell valve 15, the latter sliding within a sleeve 26 whereby as said bell moves downwardly the charge falls to a level 31, its mass being evenly distributed both wider and shallower than before. The bell 15 is operated by a rod 17 extending through a gas-filled seal chamber 20 and actuated by hydraulic motor 24. It may also be rotated and may have vertical, radially extending guide walls on its surface.
