A fishing spool 14 Fig. 2 comprises a cylindrical core 52, provided on its inner surface with at least one key 55 for engagement with a spool mounting hub 38, flanges 50, 51 secured to the ends of the core, and at least one aperture 58 through at least one of the flanges. The spool may have three keys symmetrically disposed on the inner surface of the core, and three apertures symmetrically disposed in each flange, which may be provided with radiussed inner edges 65, 66 Fig. 4.
