Abstract
1,267,458. Foamed coatings. REVERTEX Ltd. 4 May, 1970 [5 May, 1969], No. 22865/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Substrates, e.g. woven or non-woven textile (e.g. rayon) webs, are coated with a solid foam by (a) preparing an aqueous dispersion comprising a film-forming polymer, and, by weight based on the polymer content of the dispersion, not less than 1.0% of a non-ionic surfactant, and from 0.5% to 7.5% of a blend of saturated or unsaturated C 8-20 fatty alcohols and/or a blend of fatty acid amides of the formula RCONR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each a hydrogen atom, or a C 1-6 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group and R is a saturated or unsaturated C 8-20 aliphatic group, the blend being, a blend of those alcohols or amides which are liquid at 18‹C and/or those alcohols or amides which are solid at 18‹C such that the blend itself is liquid at 18‹C; (b) foaming the dispersion; (c) spreading the resulting foam on the substrate to form a layer not more than 15 mm. in thickness; and (d) drying the foam. The polymer may be a homopolymer or copolymer of esters of acrylic acid, esters of methacrylic acid, styrene, butadiene, isoprene, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile, vinyl halides or vinylidene halides, or natural rubber.
