Abstract
1,266,213. 11-Cyanoundecanoic acid; 12- amino-dodecanoic acid. BP. CHEMICALS Ltd. 29 Sept., 1970 [24 Oct., 1969], No. 52195/69. Heading C2C. A purified derivative of 11-cyanoundecanoic acid is obtained in a process which comprises dissolving crude 11-cyanoundecanoic acid in a solvent containing ammonia and crystallizing out the ammonium salt so formed. The crude 11-cyanoundecanoic acid used may be obtained by the pyrolysis of 1,1<SP>1</SP>-diperoxydicyclohexylamine preferably after the removal therefrom of cyclohexanone. When aqueous ammonia is employed, the crude 11-cyanoundecanoic acid may first be washed with an immiscible non- polar organic solvent. The ammonium 11- cyanoundecanoate may be converted to the free acid by acidification or it may be hydrogenated to give 12-amino dodecanoic acid directly.
