Abstract

[Also in Divisions B5 and E1] A structure in the form of a roll comprises a membrane of a waterproofing pressure-sensitive adhesive and, contiguous thereto, a sheetlike substrate, one face of the substrate being substantially more readily physically separable from the membrane than the other face, the membrane being at least 0.025cm thick and the substrate being at least 15cm wide. The differential separability of the two faces of the substrate may be obtained by providing a release coating, e.g. by silicone deposition, on one surface or on both faces if the substrate is a protective coating to be later removed from the adhesive membrane, either before, during or after lamination with the membrane. The substrate may be a foil of copper or aluminium, a film of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, PVC, vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer, polyamide, polyurethane, natural rubber, polychloroprene, butyl rubber, regenerated cellulose or cellulose ethers or esters, a non-woven fabric or woven fabric of polymer, glass, hessian, cotton, fibre scrim or bituminous roofing felt, or a protective coating such as a modified polymer film pr silicone- or PTFE-coated paper. The adhesive membrane may be of a bitumen and natural or synthetic rubber blend, an oil-based mastic, polychloroprene, butyl rubber or a rosin composition. The roll may comprise a woven fabric of organic polymer fibres having on one face a layer of a pressure-sensitive bitumen-rubber adhesive and on the other face a layer of a bitumen adhesive which is not pressure-sensitive when cold but becomes tacky at elevated temperature.
