Abstract
1,265,557. Toothed gearing. J. P. PALKHIWALA. 27 June, 1969, No. 32549/69. Heading F2Q. A reduction gear between coaxial shafts 1, 27 comprises an internally toothed gear meshing an externally toothed gear, one of the gears being coaxially secured to the low speed shaft 27, and the other gear being rotatably mounted on a crank-pin 4 of the high speed shaft 1 for gyratory motion, rotation of said other gear about its own axis being prevented by interconnection to the gear casing 3 by an Oldham type coupling having ball or roller bearings between its coupling surfaces. As shown, the gyratory gear 5 is externally toothed and the output gear 7 is internally toothed. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the gyratory gear (31) is internally toothed and the output gear (32) externally toothed. In Fig. 1, diametral grooves 9, 12 in adjacent faces of a flange 8 on the gear 5 and an intermediate member 11 are drivingly connected by balls 14 in a flat cage 16. Similarly, balls 23 in a cage 25 connect slots 20, 21 in adjacent faces of the intermediate member 11 and the casing 3, the slots 20, 21 being at right angles to the slots 9, 12. The crank-pin 4 carries a balance weight 26. Nuts 30, 55 on the shaft 1 allow for taking up slack, e.g. due to wear. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the gyratory gear (41) and the casing (3) have diametral ribs (40, 34) which engage in rectangular section diametral slots (39, 35) in the intermediate member (36) via rollers (37) held in cages (38) of U-shaped crosssection, the slots (39, 35) being at right angles to one another.
