Abstract

[Also in Division B8] Preselected quantities of liquid are delivered dropwise from conduit 25, Fig. 4, into receptacles 16, Fig. 1, as the distributor 17 travels along track 12, and stops over each receptacle 16 for a predetermined period of time. Solenoid 21 is activated immediately distributor 17 starts to move to leave a receptacle 16 so that solenoid 21 rises a short distance together with the conduit 25 which it carries, this sudden movement causing any drop 50 clinging to the end of conduit 25 to fall off into the receptacle 16, thus giving a vary accurate quantity of liquid. The time of travel of distributor 17 between receptacles 16 is shorter than the time necessary for a drop to form and fall off the end of conduit 25 so that no drops of liquid fall during travel between receptacles. A timing mechanism 46 (Fig. 7, not shown) controls the movement of the distributor along the track and the operation of the solenoid.
