Abstract

The invention relates to a starter drive for internal-combustion engines having a starting pinion 13 displaceably and rotatably mounted on the armature shaft 10 of the starter motor and meshing by way of a ratchet gear 22, 23 acting as an overrunning clutch with a clutch member 19 which is also loosely mounted on the armature shaft and which is connected to a driver 16 so as to be non-rotatable relatively thereto but axially displaceable against the force of a spring 26, the driver comprises an annular body which overlaps the clutch member and a guide sleeve 17 which has an internal coarse-pitch screw thread and which is connected to the annular body so as to be non-rotatable relatively thereto, the guide sleeve being mounted on a corresponding screw threaded portion 14 of the armature shaft and being acted upon by shift means 31 which become effective during the starting operation. According to the invention the annular body of the driver is provided with at least one longitudinal slot 18 into which an extension 20 on the periphery of the clutch member engages with the clearance required for satisfactory movement in the axial direction and at least one damping element 27 is arranged between an axial shoulder on the driver and the clutch member and abuts against the shoulder and the clutch member with resilient deformation during the starting operation.
