Abstract

1,264,025. Metal window and door frames and sashes. JOSEF GARTNER & CO. 2 Dec., 1969 [2 Dec., 1968], No. 58871/69. Headings E1J and E1R. A metal window or door frame has fixing bushes 10 screwable in and outwardly with respect to the frame 2 to bear against the wall of an opening 1 to serve to secure the frame to the masonry and to this end the bushes are closed at one end which bears against the wall and has a hole through which a tool can bore into the masonry for a fixing plug 20 to take a fixing bolt 13, the frame having two outwardly facing grooves 4 extending around the frame and accommodating resilient sealing strips 5 to be adjustable outwardly so that when a sealing compound is forced through holes 8 in the frame into the grooves 4 and through ducts 7 connecting both sides of the strips 5 between the sealing lips 6, the strips are pressed against the wall of the aperture and the inner pair of lips spaced apart to contact the walls of the grooves, the holes 8 being closed by grub screws 22. In the sash the inwardly facing channel 14 between the outwardly facing grooves 4 is used for glazing or other panels and in the main frame the channel 14 is closed by a resilient stop strip 15. The grooves 4 may be used for securing the bearings of a centre hung or pivoted sash (Figs. 4-6) or a revolvable sash (Figs. 7 and 8). The frames and sashes are made in one piece by bending a suitable strip and the area of the strip in the plane of the window being kept small in comparison to the dimensions of the strip perpendicular to that plane to minimise heat conduction.
