Abstract

[Also in Division D1] A twisting or false twisting device comprising a radially clamping grip, consisting of a bundle of flexible filaments disposed around the grip axis and arched to form a funnel, has a damping means 16a which box in the bundle and damp radial vibrations thereof and a clamping member 11 which imparts a resilient radial clamping action which tends to keep the filament bundle tight. The clamping member can be O-rings (as shown) a pair of resilient filaments (20, 21) extending either side of bundle 4 in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the grip (Figs. 3, 4), or a plurality of further filaments (4) disposed as a sheath around the bundle 4 (Fig. 5). The clamping member may form also the damping means by virtue of the material of which it is made, or by rubbing of the resilient filaments (20, 21), or further filaments (40). Separate damping means 16 can also be provided. This separate damping means can be alongside or ensheathed by the clamping member (as shown).
