Abstract

126,371. Sutton, F. A. Jan. 18, 1917. Projectile fuses. - Relates to percussion fuses in which a locking-device for the firing-mechanism is displaced when the projectile is discharged, and consists in providing a retainer which, after releasing the locking-device on discharge, closes the aperture which the said device would otherwise, leave open when displaced. The entry of mud or dirt, when impact occurs, which might interfere with the' action of the fuse, is thus prevented. In the construction shown, the striker 6, which is arranged within a coned chamber 1 in known manner, is locked by a stirrup 8, Fig. 6. The part 8 is retained by a detent 10 until discharge of the projectile, whereupon the detent sets back and allows a spring 9 to eject the locking-device 8. The detent 10 is then advanced by a spring 11 so as to block up the passage left by the withdrawal of the member 8.
