Abstract

1,263,180. Indane derivatives. F. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO. A.G. 18 Nov., 1969 [19 Nov., 1969], No. 48630/70. Divided out of 1,263,179. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of the formula where D is a group of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is acetyl which may be ketalized, 1- hydroxy ethyl or 1-acyloxyethyl, X is C 1-8 alkylidene and R<SP>2</SP> is hydroxy, C 1-4 alkoxy or halogen. The compounds are prepared from compounds of the formula where D<SP>1</SP> is a group of Formula V or of the formula where R<SP>3</SP> is a ketalized acetyl or 1-hydroxyethyl or 1-acyloxyethyl group by esterification, reacting the ester with an alkylidene phosphorane under the conditions of a Wittig reaction and (a) if desired saponifying the ester group and/or cleaving the ketal group or (b) saponifying the ester group, transforming the acid to an acid halide group and if desired cleaving the ketal group. The compound of the invention may be cyclized to compounds of the formula where R is H or C 1-7 alkyl.
