Abstract
1,263,177. Valves. ANDERSON, GREENWOOD & CO. 10 July, 1969, No. 34894/69. Heading F2V. Valve comprises a valve member 36 cooperating with a seat 22 between inlet 16 and outlet 18 of body 10 to which is secured a bonnet 12. An actuating diaphragm 32 fixed to the valve member and body is subject to fluid pressure on opposite sides. A supporting surface 56 fully supports the diaphragm when the valve is in full open position. As shown, the diaphragm is formed with a shallow annular convolution and is fully supported also in the closed position by a profiled ring 52. A variable control pressure in a chamber 24 can be set up through a connection 48. The valve member is bored to correspond approximately to the seat opening and slides on a fixed piston 26, the bore being sealed by an 0-ring 40. The valve member has a cylindrical closure part 44 which co-operates with a profiled flow graduating ring 60 securing the seat 22. The seat may comprise a metal ring 58 to which is bonded a resilient channel-shaped ring 66. The end face of the part 44 seats both on the resilient ring and the metal ring. In a modification, the channel ring is replaced by two 0-rings (98, 100), Fig. 7 (not shown), of which one seals the graduating ring to the body whilst the other (100) seals with the end of the valve member. The metal ring (94) may float slightly to equalize the pressure across the ring (100) to keep it in place. In another modification the metal ring is clamped by a flange (88) thereof and pressure across the 0-ring is equalized by holes (86) through the metal ring. The valve member has a slight clearance in the chamber 24 to provide a dashpot effect.
