Abstract

1,263,095. Separating liquids. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 23 June, 1969 [21 June, 1968], No. 31511/69. Heading B1D. The liquid dispersion product of a chemical process is delivered to chamber 1, and its phases separate by settling and are simultaneously cooled or heated to optimum temperature while flowing through spiral passage 2 defined between the convolutions of a spiral, double-walled heat exchanger, through which medium flows from 10 to 13. The heavier liquid is discharged through opening 18 in the vessel floor, and the lighter liquid flows over vertically adjustable weir 4 to outlet 12, which may be connected to an inverted U- tube (16) to limit the level in chamber 11. The top of the vessel has a gas outlet (14). Passage 2 may be 6 to 30mm. across and is relatively high. Chambers 1, 3 may be lined with thermally insulating material and the vessel may be externally lagged.
