Abstract

Butt joints.-Metal pipes with integral flanges formed by bending out the pipe ends have the flanges reinforced by rings welded on behind the flange. As shown in Fig. 1, the rings d are welded to the flanges c and to the pipes at e, e. One of the clamping-collars h may be formed with projections j to prevent the packing from being forced out. In a modified construction, the flanges are made sufficiently wide to allow the bolts to pass directly through them. The reinforcing-ring may be L-shaped in section.
