Abstract

1,261,985. Scintillation camera. PICKER CORP. 20 June, 1969 [25 June, 1968], No. 31299/69. Heading H4F. [Also in Divisions C4 and G1] A scintillation camera includes a scintillator assembly between radiation delineating means 10 and an array of photo-electric elements 15, the assembly including scintillator 17 with parallel input and output surfaces and peripheral light absorbent region 30 for absorbing at least a portion of the light in the peripheral region and for inhibiting the reflection of light from the periphery back into the main imaging portion 28. Region 30 may be wedge shaped (oppositely orientated in Fig. 3, not shown) and regions 36, 38 coated with non-reflective and light-absorbent lamp black, regions 36, 38 being at slightly less than 45 degrees. The wedge may be symmetrical as in Fig. 2 (not shown). Scintillator 17 may be between circular Al and glass plates 19 and 20 respectively with annular metal ring 22 forming a hermetically sealed enclosure. Gamma ray detection in medical studies is mentioned and detection of a scintillation by one or more phototubes connected to a computer for sensing the spatial location of the emissions.
