Abstract

1,261,984. Perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimides. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 18 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 30877/69. Heading C4P. The invention comprises pigments of the general formula wherein R is H or methyl. They are prepared by condensing perylene - 3,4,9,10 - tetracarboxylic acid or its anhydride with 2-aminoquinoline or 2 - amino - 4 - methylquinoline in presence of a condensation agent, e.g. anhydrous zinc chloride or zinc acetylacetonate, and preferably in presence of a solvent, e.g. quinoline or glycerine at temperatures up to 280‹ C. The pigment may be conditioned by grinding a mixture of pigment, a petroleum fraction and calcium chloride, drowning in HCl, filtering, water washing and drying. The pigments are used for colouring lacquers, P.V.C., polyurethane, polycarbonate, polystyrene, P.A.C. and printing inks.
