Abstract

1,261,246. Fuel injection pumps. AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT. Feb. 5, 1969 [March 5, 1968], No.6134/69. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump, the pump chamber communicates through a throttled passage with a cavity which stores a portion of the fuel delivered during the injection stroke, the passage having an adjustable hydraulically electromagnetically or mechanically operated closing means for isolating the cavity. The device shown in Fig. 1 comprises a cock 110 having a passage 113 connecting the throttle passage 106 with the cavity 105 which is of variable volume and in which the movement of piston 107 is limited by means of an abutment 109. The cock is controlled through a lever system 115, 116 by a fuel control lever 114 movable between abutments 117, 118. Fuel is passed to the injector C through passages 103, 104 as piston 102 moves on its forward stroke. In alternative constructions in which the cavity 105 has a fixed volume, the throttle may be provided within the cock, the adjustable closing means may comprise a slide valve having a tapered portion producing the throttling actions or the communication between the delivery chamber 101 and the cock can be made cyclic or permanent through recesses or apertures formed in the fuel distributing element. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 a slidable regulating throttle valve 122 meters the fuel delivery by means of a tapered portion 123 which throttles the fuel-flow. In a further embodiment the fuel feed pressure controls the adjustable closing means.
