Abstract

1,260,801. Radiators; hot-plates. S. G. A. SWALES. 9 Oct., 1970 [21 Jan., 1970], No. 2966/70. Headings F4S and F4W. A panel-type radiator 1 is pivotally mounted so that it can be swung from its normal vertical position into a horizontal position to serve as a hot-plate. The radiator inlet and outlet connections are embodied in swivel couplings 5 mounted on brackets 6 secured to a supporting surface 7. The radiator can be retained in a horizontal position by a folding strut 12 of Y-form having a knuckle joint 13. The strut is folded upon itself and accommodated behind the radiator when the radiator is in its vertical position. A releasable spring-loaded catch 15 locks the radiator in the horizontal position. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) a telescopic spring-loaded articulated strut can be used to support the radiator. A detachable sheet (18) of mesh or grid structure may be provided to facilitate the radiator's use as a hot-plate, the sheet being stored behind the radiator when not required. A supplementary tank (20, Fig. 1) incorporating an immersion heater may be located in the radiator inlet line for bringing the hot-plate into service when the radiator system is inoperative. The radiator includes an internal baffle arrangement (4, Fig. 1).
