Abstract

1,260,655. Feeding sheets. DE LA RUE INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 22 April, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 19862/68. Heading B8R. Bundles 1a of banknotes in a pile 1 on a table 2 are separated in turn from the top of the stack by suction cups 5 carried on arms 8, 9 pivoted at 13 to allow vertical movement and on rods 10 and 11 to allow horizontal movement. A start signal from a note-handling apparatus drives a vacuum pump to create vacuum at 23 and drive a motor 3 to raise the table 2 through chains 4, provided the top of the pile is not in contact with the cups 5. When the pile contacts the cups, suction in the system opens a switch Sl in the circuit of the motor 3. A further signal energizes a motor 18 and a crank disc 15 rotates to move the cups from over the pile to over a shoot 19 and back. As the cups move away from the pile, they are raised by a stationary cam 14 and allow a switch S2 in the circuit of the motor 3 to open. When the cups are over the shoot, a projection 28 on the disc 15 opens a valve 26 to release the suction and drop the bundle into the shoot. Thus the table 2 is raised only when the cups are over and out of contact with the pile.
