[Also in Divisions D1 and F2] A machine for spinning synthetic filaments from molten polymeric materials, wherein filaments 4 are forwarded from a plurality of spinning devices 2 through cooling chambers 10 and then gathered into yarns by guiding tubes 13, the resultant yarns being passed on to a yarn winding device 5, includes the following features; the spinning devices 2 are arranged in a circle; the yarn winding device 5 includes a plurality of rotary bobbins 15 arranged in a circle; each bobbin 15 co-operates with one yarn spreading and guiding device 16; the number of bobbins is equal to the number of yarns to be wound plus at least one; the bobbins are equally angularly spaced around the circle; and the yarn winding device 5 is mounted for rotation through angular steps equal to the bobbin spacing, this rotation being performed after all the yarns have been rethreaded, each on to a corresponding bobbin. When all the bobbins except for the spare empty bobbin 15<SP>1</SP> are full, the yarn previously wound on the bobbin to the left of bobbin 15<SP>1</SP> is rethreaded on to bobbin 15<SP>1</SP>, that full bobbin is replaced by an empty one, and all the yarns are similarly rethreaded in succession round the circle until the new spare empty bobbin is the one to the right of 15<SP>1</SP>. The yarn winding device 5 is then rotated by a Geneva cross-mechanism (Fig. 3, not shown) to the left through an angle equal to one bobbin spacing, so that the new spare empty bobbin is in the same position as the original one. The cooling chambers 10 are supplied with streams of air.
