Abstract

1,259,462. Aircraft weapon mountings. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. Ltd. 6 Oct., 1969 [19 Aug., 1968], No. 39613/68. Heading F3C. A gun mounting system for aircraft comprises a hollow body formed by two relatively axially movable parts 6a, 6b, one part 6b being adapted to be rigidly attached to the inner component 9a of a part-spherical joint, the outer component 9b being attachable to the aircraft, and the other part 6a being attached to the gun cradle. A flexible means 8 is operatively mounted between the two parts 6a, 6b, the arrangement being such that the flexible means 8 absorbs at least part of both the recoil and run-out loads of the cradle. In the construction shown the flexible means 8 comprises two stacks 19, 20 of spaced annular discs 21, the discs being separated from each other in each stack alternately by different diameter spacer rings 22, 23 and the stacks being separated by a flange 18 of the hollow body part 6a. Relative rotation of the two parts is prevented by a threaded member 24 and the flexible means may be provided with packing pieces 26 to prevent play in the assembly. The annular discs of each stack may have differing characteristics or a different number of discs may be placed in the two stacks. The discs may be in the form of truncated cones.
