Abstract

1,259,215. Removal of carbon dioxide from a gas by solvent extraction; and degassing the solution. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 8 Dec., 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 59802/69. Headings B1B and B1M. [Also in Division H1] Carbon dioxide is removed from a gas, such as air or hydrogen, by contacting the gas with a countercurrent stream of a liquid extracting phase, e.g. an aqueous solution of an aminoalcohol such as monoethanolamine, in a column filled with porous material. In order to regenerate the extractant solution for re-use it is freed from CO 2 by heating the solution as it flows through tank 16 which is provided with electrical resistor b. The mixture of vapour and gas passes through chimney d to zone 17 which is cooled by coil through which the solution to be regenerated flows before it enters tank 6. The condensate (regenerated solution) flows to reservoir 18. Boiling regenerated solution also flows from tank 16 into reservoir 18. CO 2 gas escapes through orifices f.
