A fluorescent lamp fitting of the kind having an elongated inverted channel-shaped housing 1 containing the lamp control gear, a transparent or translucent cover 12 closing the housing and enclosing a lamp tube 16 wherein there is a gear tray 11 releasably retained in the housing by a number of substantially U-shaped fixing brackets 5 whose free ends are fixed to the housing and which, at their base ends receive a screw 10 which is releasably engageable with a pivotally or slidably mounted member 18 fixed to the gear tray by screw 24. Each supporting member has a portion 19 shaped to partially surround the lamp tube and a lug 20 having a threaded aperture receiving a captive belt 22 clamping the cover 12 to the housing. A gasket 15 is interposed between the cover which may be of acrylic resin and the housing which may be of aluminium.
