Abstract

1,258,034. Oscillator circuits. BUNKERRAMO CORP. 2 June, 1970 [23 July, 1969], No. 26464/70. Heading H3F. [Also in Divisions G3, G5 and H2] A vibrator structure comprising a pair of metallic tine members integral with a base portion is formed by stamping out a U-shaped aperture in a thin metallic sheet, as shown in Fig. 1. The portion 14 of the sheet defines one tine member, and the portions 12a, 12b and 16 together define the other tine member, the remaining portion 22 defining the base. The sheet 10 may be in the form of a bi-metal laminated sheet, one lamina being made of a material from a class of high nickel content alloys having a positive temperature coefficient of elasticity, and the other lamina being made of a material having a negative coefficient of elasticity. Holes, such as 20, may be formed in either or both tine members to equalize the resonant frequencies of the tine members, or a weight, such as 18, may be added. Alternatively, the shape of the aperture 15 may be made suitable to achieve this end. Piezo-electric transducers 48, 50, 52, as shown on Fig. 8, may be attached at the base, the pick-up transducers 50, 52 providing an output signal via amplifier 53<SP>1</SP> to the drive transducer 48, thus sustaining "fork mode" oscillations of the tuning fork. These oscillations may be fed via 54 through another amplifier to drive an electric clock (not shown). The two pick-up transducers 50, 52 are arranged in an out-of-phase relationship so any "reed mode" vibrations of the tuning fork, caused by spurious vibrational forces, are cancelled. In this.arrangement, transducers 50, 52 are located remotely enough from the drive-transducer 48 to minimize strain coupling between the drive and pick-up transducers. Electromagnetic transducers may also be used in this arrangement, either in combination with piezo-electric transdncers, or instead of them.
