Abstract

1,257,567. Centrifugal and axial-flow pumps. BENDIX CORP. March 12, 1969 [March 12, 1968] No. 12987/69. Heading F1C. An inducer for a rotodynamic pump, e.g. a centrifugal pump 10, comprises an impeller 12 arranged within a by-pass sleeve valve 22. During normal operation, the sleeve valve is biased by a spring 40 to close the inlet 24 of a by-pass passage 26. When the flow through the impeller 12 reaches a predetermined minimum due to a decrease in the output of the pump, the consequent increased pressure differential across the impeller 12 acts through passages 36, 38 on flange 28 and causes the sleeve valve to open the inlet 24 so that the fluid can be recirculated as shown.
