Abstract
1,257,535. Centrifugal strainer. SOC. FIVES LILLE-CAIL. 8 Dec., 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 59814/69. Heading B1D. A centrifugal strainer drum 10 has a hub 38 mounted for rotation on a pivot 34 which is rigidly secured to the upper half 22 of the enclosing housing, the upper half being resiliently supported relative to the fixed lower half of the housing by rubber blocks 26, or by a rubber ring (60) (Fig. 2, not shown), located on a level with the centre of gravity of the whole supported structure, including the drum, which is also the level of the geometric centre of gravity of the inner surface of the drum. This ensures that any vibration of the structure is limited to the horizontal direction. Fig. 1 shows a frusto-conical, solid drum, lined with screen 12, but the drum could be perforate and cylindrical. Material enters the drum from pipe 50 via rotating bladed wheel 52 and annular conduit 56. In an alternative construction (Fig. 3, not shown) pipe 50 carries an annular disc (62) making a very small clearance with the rotating part of the material inlet, thereby minimising the flow of air created through the drum by wheel 52. The upper and lower halves of the casing are sealed together by flexible ring 30 or bellows. The upper half may have a thick wall to increase its weight or carry additional weights.
