Abstract

1,257,240. Packaging washing machines. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Nov., 1969 [6 Nov., 1968], No. 53988/69. Heading B8C. In order to prevent relative movement between a resiliently suspended drum and the housing of a washing machine when the latter is being transported the drum is held immobilized in the machine by a number of straps each of which is looped around the drum, or around a part carried thereby and has its ends secured to the exterior of the framework of either the machine housing or a packaging structure surrounding the housing. As shown, the straps, made of nylon having orientated molecules to provide elasticity and so that they can be welded, are each looped round the drum itself or, round a part carried by the drum, the adjacent pairs of strap ends being welded, or stapled, together around pegs 1 on the outside of the machine. The adjacent ends of each looped strap can be passed through an appropriate aperture in the machine housing before being secured around an external framework. To facilitate the securement of the strap ends an external framework 2 can be provided with trapezoidal recesses which accommodate correspondingly shaped removable wedges 3 around which the ends of a strap can be looped before it is wedged in a recess.
