Abstract

1,257,033. Production of sintered metal strip. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. July 8, 1969 [July 10, 1968], No.32957/68. Heading C7D. Sintered metal strip e.g. mild steel or stainless steel is produced by depositing a slurry of metal powder on to a support e. g. endless metal belt or drum, which has been coated with a release agent, drying, removing the coating which is then rolled and sintered. The metal powder is suspended in an aqueous solution of a cellulose derivative e.g. methyl cellulose to give a viscosity less than 50, 000 cps. and a hygroscopic substance e.g. glycerol may be added. The release agent is a fatty acid such as oleic or stearic or a fluorinated hydrocarbon e.g. PTFE or silicones. The fatty acid may be dissolved in trichlorethylene or ethanol.
