Abstract
1,256,536. Rotary kilns. CREUSOT-LOIRE. 3 Dec., 1968 [8 Dec., 1967], No. 57266/68. Heading F4B. A rotary cement kiln 1 is surrounded by a stationary cover 6 formed from two annular side walls 7 and a peripheral member 8. Graphite lubricated rollers 9 mounted on reinforcement members 10 secured to the cover side walls 7 roll against tracks 11 extending circumferentially over the exterior of the kiln, this resilient mounting of the cover allowing it to take up any deformations over the kilns circumference as the latter rotates. The cover itself is prevented from rotating by member 14. Resilient gaskets 12 secured to the side walls 7 bear against the inner or outer edges of circumferential ribs 13 secured to the kilns exterior to seal the space within the cover from the atmosphere. Steel tubes 4 extend through the kiln lining 2. They may be used to transfer air or gases from the interior of the cover to the interior of the kiln, or vice versa, or to charge cement dust, introduced into the space within the cover from pneumatic or screw feeder 18, the dust being picked up by the scoop ends 5 of the tubes 4 as the kiln 1 rotates. A cover discharge aperture 20 and tube cleaning apertures 21, 22 in the cover 6 and the tubes 4 respectively are also provided. The tubes 4 may be provided with valves (not shown) to control the passage of gases therethrough.
