Abstract

1,256,095. N-substituted pyridones. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 June, 1969 [27 June, 1968], No. 60901/70. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein n is 0 or 1, X<SP>1</SP> is H or an alkyl or aryl radical which may be substituted and Z is an alkoxyalkyl radical. The compounds are prepared by condensing compounds and CN.CH 2 COOalkyl in the presence of an amine Z-NH 2 or by cyclizing an appropriate α : #-disubstituted glutaconamide. The compound 1 - (γ - methoxypropyl) - 3 - cyano - 6- hydroxy-pyrid-2-one is specified and may be prepared by condensing together ethyl acetoacetate, ethyl cyanoacetate and γ-methoxypropylamine.
