A delayed release pharmaceutical composition is made by intimately mixing two therapeutic substances which are absorbed at different rates in the body whilst one of them is in the non-solid (i.e. liquid or plastic) until a homogeneous composition is formed, and solidifying the composition by cooling. Thereafter, it may be granulated and/or incorporated into such forms as dragees, tablets and capsules, which may comprise conventional excipients, e.g. a swelling agent. The invention is exemplified by reference to mixtures of vitamins (A, B, C and E) and various 1-, 3- and/or 7-substituted xanthines of which 1- hexyl-3, 7-dimethyl xanthine is specified.
