Abstract
1,255,583. Compartmented containers. RAINBOW CRAFTS Inc. 24 Feb., 1970 [28 Feb., 1969], No. 8888/70. Heading B8D. [Also in Divison B6] An ink well or paint holder comprises outer and inner walls 12 and 16 defining an outer fluid reservoir chamber A and an inner dispensing chamber B, and a bottom wall 18 consisting of a flexible diaphragm portion 40 and a central portion 42 which projects into the chamber B and is provided with an inclined surface or surfaces 48 co-operating with a correspondingly bevelled edge 34 of the inner side wall to prevent fluid flow from chamber A to chamber B until the bottom wall is flexed away from the inner side wall by a paint brush or other implement. The central portion may be of general frustoconical or pyramidal shape and dished at 50. Alternatively, Fig. 6 (not shown), the central portion is cone shaped. An annular lip or flange 30 projects downwardly into the chamber B and defines a narrow annulus 32 which prevents any spillage of fluid in chamber B should the container be knocked over. To avoid inadvertent separation of the bottom wall from the inner side wall during storage or transport, the bottom edge of the inner wall may be temporarily secured to the bottom wall central portion at spaced peripheral points 36a by sonic welding, these welds being broken by depression of the bottom wall on initial use.
