Abstract

1,255,534. Spinning yarns. KANEGAFUCHI BOSEKI K.K. 29 May, 1969 [3 June, 1968 (5); 17 June, 1968], No. 27374/69. Headings D1F and D1W. An elastic, bulked, composite yarn is produced by helically coiling a fine i.e. not more than 80 denier, monofilament, multifilament, or staple fibre, binding yarn consisting essentially of polypivalolactone and/or copolymer(s) thereof (and perhaps with other components) around a ground or core yarn containing at least one relatively low-shrinkage fibre, which may be crimped and/or elastic or crimpable and/or elasticisable, and then subjecting the yarn assembly to a dry or wet heat treatment at a temperature of 100-220‹C, before or after formation into woven, knitted or netted fabrics or articles, wearing apparel, cords or ropes, in order to shrink the binding yarn (and any other shrinkable component) and render it elastic, thereby distorting the ground' yarn so that at least one bulkedyarn thereof protrudes outwardly in arcuate form between adjacent points bound by the binding yarn. The proportions by weight of binding yarn and ground yarn are hot more than 15% and not less than 85% respectively. Ground yarn(s) may be monofilament, multifilament, of staple and/or mixed fibre or crimpable/ shrinkable bifilaments, or a composite yarn comprising natural fibres such as silk, cotton, linen and wool, regenerated cellulose, cellulose diacetate and triacetate, or synthetic fibres such as polyamides, polyesters, polyolefins, polyvinyls, polyacrylics, or similar or different single ends doubled or intertwisted. An elastic or elasticisable component of the ground yarn may be of polypivalolactone less shrinkable' under the heat treatment than the binding yarn. The final yarn components may have similar or opposite twists.
