1,255,419. Conveyers. G. BOWYER. 15 July, 1970 [16 July, 1969], No. 35720/69. Heading B8A. Workpieces 19 on platens 18 are supported on rollers 17 mounted on an elongated carriage 13 which is reciprocated along an upper pair of rails 11 by means not shown. Beside each rail 11 are a plurality of spring-loaded catch pieces 25 which permit the articles 18, 19 to move from right to left but prevent their movement from left to right. A lower pair of rails 12 supports a further carriage 20 and a ram-operated platform 26 is vertically movable between the two levels. The carriages 13 and 20 are reciprocated out of phase. As the carriage 13 moves to the left, the platens 18 move with it after an initial lag. When the carriage moves to the right the platens are arrested by the catch pieces 25 and for each reciprocation of the carriage the platens are progressed a distance equal to that between the catch pieces. After the carriage 13 has moved a platen into contact with an end stop 28, the platform 26 lifts the platen from the rollers 17, the carriage 13 moves to the right and the platform deposits the platen upon rollers 24 of the carriage 20 which is then moved to the right under the action of the catch pieces 25 provided beside the rails 12.
