Abstract

1,255,318. Reciprocating conveyers for loading vehicles. O. A. HALLSTROM Jnr. 22 June, 1970, No. 30148/70. Headings B8A and B8E. A reciprocating conveyer incorporated in a vehicle comprises groups of slats which reciprocate longitudinally. Each group consists of three slats 26, 28, 30, connected to transverse bars 42, 44, 46, respectively, the bars being reciprocated by a cylindrical cam 56 engaged by rollers followers 70 mounted on rods 50, 52, 54. The form of a cam groove 68 is such that for each group of slats two slats move simultaneously in the conveying direction while the other slat moves in the opposite direction, at a faster rate, due to the slope of the cam groove. To assist the retraction of the rods 50, 52, 54, coil springs 78 are provided. The cam 56 is driven by a power take-off shaft. Alternatively, a separate power source may be used. The spaces between the slats are covered by resilient strips 34 of metal, one being secured to each of the slats. The vehicle is loaded or unloaded according to the direction of drive of the cam 56, the conveying direction being that in which two of the group of three slats are simultaneously moved. There may be more than three slats in each group but more than half the number of the slats in a group must be moved simultaneously in the conveying direction. In place of the cam drive, hydraulic cylinder units or rack-andpinion assemblies may be used.
