Abstract

1,255,209. Apparatus for moulding sheet glass. LIBBEY-OWENS-FORD CO. 20 May, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 25546/69. Heading C1M. Apparatus for bending glass sheets, e.g. for motor car windscreens, comprises a lower moulding member 11 of the ring type which is raised by an hydraulic ram 25 to contact the edges of the lower surface of a plane sheet of glass 19 supported on conveyer rolls 13 and to raise the glass clear of the rolls, whereby it is bent into the required shape by inertial and gravitational forces, and an upper, stationary mould member 12 having moulding surfaces 30 which contact only a minor peripheral portion of the upper surface of the sheet when it is fully raised on the lower mould member (the corners of the sheet in the illustrated embodiment) to assist in forming the bent sheet.
