Abstract

1,253,449. Polybutene compositions. PRINCETON CHEMICAL RESEARCH Inc. 26 Feb., 1969, No. 10426/69. Heading C3P. [Also in Division Cl] An agricultural mulch consists of a film of at least 1 mil. thickness of polybutene-1 having a molecular weight in the range of 10,000 to 2,000,000, the film being normally decomposable in less than one growing season and containing sufficient known anti-oxidant and ultra-violet light absorber to extend the normal decomposition period to up to one growing season. Optional additives specified are butene copolymers, ethylene-propylene rubber, polybutadiene, herbicides, insecticides, soil conditioning agents, carbon black, urea, calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, potassium phosphate, potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate and potassium chloride. The mulch finds use in growing stawberries, pineapples and tomatoes.
