Abstract

1,252,968. Abrasive tools. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. 30 Jan., 1969 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 5518/69. Heading B3D. A rotary tool for abrading marginal portions of workpieces, such as shoe soles 16, comprises an abrading wheel 4, and a guide wheel 12 mounted spaced from the abrading wheel for free rotation on a projection extending from the abrading wheel, the tool being arranged to receive the workpieces in the space between the wheels with an edge engaging an abutment surface between the wheels. The wheel 4 has an enlarged hub portion 5 which acts as a flywheel and a shaping surface 9 provided with tungsten carbide particles and grooves 10 for exhausting removed material. The wheel 4 is secured to a rotatable shaft 6 and its upper end has bearings 14 for the guide wheel 12 which is formed with a lower hub 13 acting between the wheels as the abutment surface for the edge of the workpiece. The spacing between the wheels is adjustable. The edge of the material is passed through the gap between the wheels and is thereby chamferred and roughened.
