Abstract

[Also in Divisions F1, G1 and H1] An electric heater for a temperature sensitive control device comprises a ceramic support 11, e.g. of alumina or beryllia, a resistive coating 12 spaced terminals 13, 14 on the support, the coating 12 being bonded to the support and the terminals 13, 14 being bonded to the coating 12 by firing. The coating 12 which is predominantly palladium oxide containing a glass frit bonding agent, and the terminals 13, 14 which comprise one of the following alloys i.e. palladium-gold; platinium-gold; or palladium silver containing and a glass frit bonding agent, are applied as inks. One or both sides of the support may carry a heating element which may be protected by an air-tight glass coating. The side of the heater adjacent the temperature sensitive element may be provided with a coating to improve its thermal radiation. The heating coating 12 may be shaped to provide a desired heat pattern, Figs. 2b, 2c, not shown, and may comprise a meander pattern of variable pitch. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the heater comprises an annular resistive coating on a ceramic washer which contains a central axial pin to which the bimetallic element of control device is secured.
