Abstract

N-monohalourea derivatives of the formula wherein R is an alkyl group having at least 3 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl, aralkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl or acyl group and one of X and X<SP>1</SP> is a chlorine or bromine atom and the other is a hydrogen atom, e.g. the novel compounds of the formula wherein X is a hydrogen atom and Rd is a C 3-15 cycloalkyl radical, or X is a chlorine or bromine atom and R d is a radical of the formula R 1 -CO-, R 1 being an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aryl, alkoxy or aryloxy group containing up to 10 carbon atoms, are obtained by reacting chlorine or bromine with aqueous suspensions of substituted ureas of the formula at 0 to 60‹ C., the molar ratio of halogen to urea compound being at least 1 : 1.
