Abstract

1,252,786. Vehicle steering mechanism. VALMET OY. 7 Oct., 1969 [11 Oct., 1968], No. 49099/69. Heading B7H. The wheels 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d of a mobile gantry crane are each turnable by means of a respective one of hydraulic rams 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d between positions corresponding to first and second main travelling directions I, II, the wheels 1b, 1c being steerable by means of the rams 5b, 5c when the crane is travelling in direction I, and the wheels 1c, 1d being steerable by means of the rams 5c, 5d when travelling in direction II. Operation of the rams 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d is controlled by an hydraulic system comprising a steering control valve 8 actuated by a steering wheel 7, selector valves 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and an engine driven pump P which supplies pressure fluid from a reservoir 9. As shown, the wheels are orientated for travelling in direction I and the selector valves are positioned so that the wheels 1b, 1c can be steered by actuating the steering wheel 7. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the wheels and valves are positioned for travelling in direction II, and in Fig. 2 (not shown) the selector valves are positioned so that all the rams are actuated simultaneously to turn the diagonally opposite wheels la, 1c in one direction and the other diagonally opposite wheels 1b, 1d in the opposite direction through 90 degrees from the position corresponding to direction I to that corresponding to direction II.
