Abstract
1,251,903. Hydrocyclones. CELLECO A.B. 30 Oct., 1969 [31 Oct., 1968], No. 53141/69. Heading B2P. In a hydrocyclone for separating pulp suspensions containing relatively heavy and relatively light contaminants a central liquid-free core 8 of gas is drawn out of the vortex chamber 1 by an extraction pipe 6a having its open intake end 7a positioned centrally in the heavy contaminants discharge end of the chamber, the diameter d of the open intake end of the extraction pipe being greater than “ but less than ¥ of the diameter D of the internal cross-section of the vortex chamber at the heavy contaminats-discharge end thereof. With this arrangement, a portion of the accept fraction, the bulk of which is discharged through a vortex finder, containing the light contaminants but no heavy contaminants is sucked with the gas through the pipe 6a. The heavy contaminants discharge through the annular space between the pipe 6a and the wall of the chamber 1 into a rejects chamber which is provided with a tangential outlet.
